Innovative design and maximum performance are things that Richard Mille and Ferrari have in common. Since 2021, the two brands have been working together to realise joint projects.
Their latest creation: the RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari gives the masterpiece RM UO-1 Ultraflat, released in 2022, a brand new, highly complex format. The chronograph is limited to 75 pieces and is available in two versions: in finely blasted and polished grade 5 titanium with Carbon TPT® case centre section and in Carbon TPT®.
While the titanium case conveys a gentleman-driver look, the carbon version creates a feeling of explosive speed.
The design of the various components of the watch bears witness to the influence of Ferrari’s Centro Stile. A titanium plate inspired by the rear spoiler of the 499P in the lower left corner of the watch features the iconic Ferrari logo.
Flavio Manzoni reveals the recipe for the successful collaboration between Richard Mille and Ferrari: ‘A collaboration like this is based as much on shared values as on the visual similarities between a Ferrari engine or component and the components used in a watch. In terms of performance, anything that fulfils a technical purpose can also be beautiful. The concept of functional beauty is something we really value.’
Even the movement reflects Ferrari’s craftsmanship, emphasising the contrasting details inspired by the complex geometry of the engine blocks. The metallic nature of the plate reflects the precision of engine parts produced by the sand-casting process, while the finely blasted bridges are reminiscent of the hardened, matt finish of Ferrari engine covers. The striking design with its different colours and small X-shaped supports is reminiscent of details often found on Ferrari engine blocks and crankcases.
The power reserve of 70 hours, which is equipped with a decentralised tourbillon escapement and supported by a titanium cage, is particularly impressive. The dynamic seconds display, which creates a unique kinetic effect thanks to the radial arrangement of the discs, ensures exceptional accuracy. An additional torque display provides the wearer with a precise overview of the watch’s performance. Extensive endurance tests and simulations were carried out in order to achieve the durability, precise functioning and high standards of the Ferrari philosophy.
