THE RIPPLES COLLECTION
Speake Marin makes the beginning of 2025 unforgettable by introducing a noble and precious metal in the Ripples collection. Since its establishment in 2002, the independent brand has always been distinguished by its commitment to the highest standards of fine watchmaking and its exclusive production, which combines the quest for technical excellence, the development of mechanical innovations and a unique, original and unmistakable style.
In 2022, Speake Marin, after consolidating a versatile yet consistent catalogue comprising the Ripples, Piccadilly, Haute Horlogerie and Art Series collections, complemented them with a new range imbued with a sporty-chic spirit: Ripples. Over time, the brand has enriched it with numerous versions powered by a variety of in-house self-winding calibres featuring high performance, integrated micro-rotors and fine finishes. The many references are all made of steel and all of them are equipped with the signature small seconds at 1:30, whose counter stands out on the dial decorated with the exclusive horizontal ripples that give the collection its name.
On the occasion of Watches and Wonders 2025, Speake Marin introduces for the first time a rose gold Ripples model: Ripples Gold. A choice that underlines the watch’s elegant and refined character and makes it even more exclusive.
THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE NEW RIPPLES GOLD
With the new Ripples Gold, Speake Marin plunges into a world that is stylish, glamorous and distinctive. The rose gold case is evocative of an ideal way of life that is both sophisticated and elitist, where beauty meets glamour and values meet pleasure. An “art de vivre”, rich in passion and culture, good taste and satisfaction, which perceives material objects as a symbol of personal satisfaction and affirmation of one’s individuality.
THE PRECIOUS ROSE GOLD CASE
The new Ripples Gold features the iconic “La City” case. Designed by Stéphane Lacroix, it’s the perfect horological synthesis of the circle and the square, with a complex architecture comprising 40 components. Like other pieces in the Ripples collection, it measures 40.30 mm in diameter, has a thickness of 9.20 mm and is water resistant to 5 Atm. Thanks to its well-thought-out dimensions and excellent proportions, it can be worn on the slimmest of wrists, ensuring perfect comfort.
For the first time in its history, “La City” is crafted in 4N rose gold, an 18-carat gold alloy consisting of three metals in different proportions, as defined by international standards: 75% gold, 9% silver and 16% copper. This composition provides a warm and delicate shade, unaltered by the passage of time and unaffected by external agents: resistant to air, humidity or acids, it is totally biocompatible and well tolerated even by people with the most sensitive epidermis.
In addition, the gold used by Speake Marin is responsibly sourced and then processed by a company certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), making it “ethical gold”. RJC is an international not-for-profit standards and certification organisation that certifies respect for human and labour rights and environmental sustainability in diamond, gold and platinum group metals processing.
The excellent level of craftsmanship emphasises its facetted structure with a combination of exquisite matt and polished finishes. The square-shaped bezel, with its rounded corners, the ideal synthesis between the circle and the square, features polished bevelled edges and satin-brushed surfaces. The case band is also satin-brushed, as is the protected screw-in crown, with its fluted decoration and laser- engraved logo. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects both the dial and the case back.
Another new addition to the collection is the Mocha coloured calf leather strap with embossed denim motif, which is attached to the large, polished central lugs that have been specially designed to integrate it perfectly. It is fastened to the wrist with a 4N rose gold and titanium folding clasp.
THE DISTINCTIVE DIAL
The dial is a concentrate of skilled craftsmanship and complex executions. It consists of a rhodium-plated brass plate engraved with the now iconic horizontal waves, each of which is meticulously satin-brushed by hand. The zapon finish provides a golden-brown light reflection on the dial, an unprecedented shade in the collection that blends beautifully with the warm tone of the rose gold case. The wave motif also creates dynamic light effects that enhance the legibility of the information, thanks also to the 4N gold of the polished cut diamond hour-markers and hands. It is the very essence of the collection from which it takes its name.
At the centre of the display are the hour and minute hands, whose shape echoes the famous Big Ben and pays homage to Speake Marin’s British origins. In rose gold, they harmoniously match the hue of the small seconds counter with its elegant sunray finish, an undisputed signature of the brand for its unconventional positioning. This unusual arrangement required a complete redesign of the calibre itself to ensure that the gear train did not interfere with the time-setting mechanism. That’s why the 1:30 counter is particularly appreciated by micromechanics enthusiasts and the most demanding connoisseurs.
THE IN-HOUSE MANUFACTURE MOVEMENT
Ripples Gold is powered by a manufacture self-winding mechanical movement: the SMA03-T calibre, designed, assembled and tested in Le Cercle des Horlogers, Speake Marin’s in-house workshop. Designers and master watchmakers engineered it in parallel with the aesthetics of the Ripples collection, to perfectly match the shape of the case.
It offers excellent performance to meet the needs of a contemporary audience. It is made up of 144 components, including 31 jewels, which guarantee its smooth running and longevity. And it is equipped with a balance wheel that oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and a single barrel that guarantees a 52-hour power reserve when the watch is not worn.
A key element of the SMA03-T calibre is the off-centre micro-rotor in tungsten, a metal with a superior density compared to 22K gold and therefore much heavier, which is useful for optimising the watch’s winding time.
It is fully integrated into the mechanical structure, which allows the calibre, and therefore the case, to remain slim. It has a microbeaded surface and a precious exclusive laser-engraved decoration with alternating silver and 5N gold-plated segments radiating from the centre. The finishing of all the components also meets the highest standards and is rigorously handcrafted: the circular-grained plate, the rhodium-plated bridges with 3 mm Côtes de Genève pattern, with chamfered and diamond- polished profiles and internal angles.
Exquisitely elegant, the Ripples Gold is a sophisticated timepiece. It not only reaffirms Speake Marin’s expertise and its ability to interpret the tradition of Haute Horlogerie in a contemporary key, but also reveals the wearer’s refined taste and watchmaking culture on the wrist.
Presented at Watches and Wonders 2025, it will be available at authorised retailers worldwide from April 2025.
