ZIMMERMANN announces the opening of its newest boutique in Hamburg, Germany, located in the historically significant Paulsenhaus building, now home to the city’s premier luxury retail strip, Neuer Wall. This is the brand’s second boutique in Germany, arriving in a city renowned for its creativity and cultural richness.
“Hamburg is where my father grew up before migrating to Australia as a teenager, so this opening is incredibly special to Simone and myself. I vividly remember visiting for the first time as a child and being blown away by the city — it felt so culturally different from home in Australia. Hamburg has a distinct charm made up of its historic architecture, its position on the Elbe River, and its vibrant atmosphere. It’s exciting to return to our personal roots and deliver a boutique that celebrates German design codes with a contemporary approach, elevating the space in a really fresh way.”
— Nicky Zimmermann, Creative Director & Co-Founder.
Designed by long-term collaborators Studio McQualter, the boutique’s exterior is beautifully framed by the building’s original Wilhelminian-style façade above. This architectural language is intentionally echoed in the interior threshold, creating a visual connection that defines the boutique’s distinctive character.
The entry features a striking blackened bullnose steel structure, high-gloss cream walls, and a pair of 1960s Italian brutalist stained-glass sconces. Inside, clients enter the first retail space where a large-scale artwork by Australian artist Birdie Gillman is visible from the street, and the Ready-to-Wear collection is housed in mirrored wardrobes.
In the remaining retail spaces, design elements evolve and repeat: high-gloss white walls are punctuated by blackened steel-framed niches in warm neutral tones, while accessories are presented on custom glass and metal tables. Bronze mirrored thresholds lead to the final, most intimate retail space. The result is the brand’s signature immersive retail experience.
The lounge is inviting and refined, anchored by timber parquet flooring and matte white walls, with a newly installed fireplace clad in vintage 1960s copper tiles as its centerpiece. Le Corbusier armchairs sit opposite a set of 1930s Dutch Art Deco chairs and a sculptural black metal custom pendant anchors the room. Clients can engage with the brand’s expanding footwear collection, presented at either end of the room on aluminium displays, with custom high-gloss brown framing. Adjacent fitting rooms are painted in a series of lilac, yellow, and earthy tones, subtly delineating each space.
The ZIMMERMANN Hamburg boutique opens with the new Fall RTW 25 Collection and is located on the Ground Floor at Neuer Wall 72, 20354, Hamburg, Germany.
