VEJA began producing sneakers in Europe in 2022. Building on this foundation, the brand launched the Aegean Project in 2024, unveiling its first sneaker model entirely conceived and crafted in Europe.
The decision to focus on Europe is rooted in the continent’s rich cultural heritage and diverse origins. By creating sneakers in Europe and primarily selling them within the region, VEJA underscores its commitment to local production and sustainable practices.
Central to the Aegean Project is the new V-82 model, crafted in Portugal. This sneaker draws inspiration from the aesthetics of the 1980s, including a Jacquard logo reminiscent of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. With its distinctive asymmetry, a sport foam tongue featuring the VEJA logo, a premium leather upper, and suede panels, the V-82 is a tribute to retro sportswear reimagined for today.
Maintaining its dedication to ethical sourcing, VEJA sources leather from the southern regions of Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul) and Uruguay, a country known for its high-quality leather and sustainable livestock farming. The leather used is tanned in Brazil under controlled water usage and is free from harmful chemicals and banned dyes.
All tanneries supplying leather to VEJA hold a Gold certification from the Leather Working Group, a benchmark for sustainable environmental practices in the industry.
With the Aegean Project, VEJA not only reinforces its European identity but also reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, craftsmanship, and conscious consumerism. The V-82 stands as a testament to the brand’s blend of retro influence and modern, responsible production.
