With outstanding scores from the most authoritative critics, La Ponca confirms its position as one of the most esteemed wineries in the foothills of the Collio. A winery celebrated for its authenticity and its ability to express, through each glass, the soul of the Scriò Hills.
Only four years after the launch of the new course led by Alex Maccan, La Ponca stands out as one of the most acclaimed wineries in the Collio foothills, collecting national and international accolades that highlight the work begun in 2021. This journey is rooted in an essential, respectful approach to the raw material. Malvasia 2022—with its iodized hints, balsamic notes and pleasant acidity—has established itself as one of the most awarded labels of the year: it received the WineHunter Gold, was included among the excellences of the 2026 edition of Le Guide de L’Espresso with 94 points and earned 90 points from American critic James Suckling.
Friulano 2022 also stood out, obtaining the WineHunter Rosso, 95 points in the Guida Vini e Ristoranti de L’Espresso, and 91 points awarded unanimously by James Suckling, Vinous and Winemag, which included it in its Top 100 Best Italian Wines. Sauvignon 2022 likewise received the WineHunter Rosso and 90 points from both Winemag and critic Antonio Galloni. Chardonnay 2022 was awarded 90 points by James Suckling, who praised its balance and savoriness. Completing the picture, the winery’s only red wine, Schioppettino 2020, earned 93 points from James Suckling—the highest score the critic has assigned to a La Ponca wine—confirming its quality and aromatic complexity. The wine reveals aromas of wild berries, blackberry and raspberry, accompanied by a distinctive spicy note. On the palate, it is structured, pleasantly warm, with balanced tannins; the aftertaste recalls ripe fruit and ends with a persistent peppery finish, already evident on the nose.
La Ponca’s production philosophy is grounded in the balance between land, people and nature, following the principle of “less is more,” with essential interventions both in the vineyard and in the cellar, respecting biodiversity and the raw material. The result is wines that aim to convey the character of the territory with immediacy and authenticity. These recognitions confirm the direction taken in recent years and strengthen the team’s commitment as they continue to be guided by the land, creating wines capable of reflecting the soul of the Scriò Hills in every glass.
