MIU MIU – FRAGMENTS FOR VENUS BY ALICE DIOP

Miu Miu announces Alice Diop, acclaimed French filmmaker, as director of the 30th chapter of the Miu Miu Women’s Tales film series with her episode “Fragments for Venus.”

The movie will premiere at the Venice Film Festival’s Giornate degli Autori on August 30th. Alice Diop is known for incisive documentaries on marginalized communities, including La Permanence and Vers la tendresse. Her fiction debut, Saint Omer (2022), inspired by a real-life infanticide trial, won major prizes at Venice. With echoes of Akerman’s Jeanne Dielman, the film is a formally exacting meditation on motherhood, migration, and justice—what Céline Sciamma called a “cinema poem.”

“I’ve been making films from the margins, with a political intention of filming those margins, because those are the people I come from. That’s my territory, my history.”

“Fragments for Venus is an essential film to make at this time. It is my most simple and radical work to date.” -Alice Diop
