The Principal Madrid has been recognised as a winner in the 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards by Condé Nast Traveller (UK), consolidating its place as Best Hotel in Spain according to the magazine’s readers. The official list, published today by the British edition, positions The Principal Madrid as a true benchmark in the country.
Located in the heart of Gran Vía and offering 76 rooms and suites, The Principal Madrid combines 360 degree views over the city’s landmarks with elegant, contemporary interiors and bespoke service— qualities that have made it the five-star reference point on Madrid’s most iconic avenue.
The hotel occupies a historic 1917 building and features spaces designed by the Único Hotels team led by Pilar García-Nieto. The experience revolves around its terraces—La Pérgola and La Terraza—and the ÁTICO restaurant, a gastronomic hideaway overlooking Gran Vía with a seasonal menu by chef Víctor Cuevas, who trained at renowned houses such as La Terraza del Casino (2*) and Caelis (1*).
The hotel also offers a Wellness Suite, a Technogym-equipped fitness room and salons for meetings and private events.
Rooftop in transformation: a unique garden above Gran Vía
Coinciding with this recognition, The Principal Madrid has begun refurbishing its rooftop with the aim of turning it into a true urban garden—a green lookout over the city designed to be enjoyed year- round. La Pérgola—the sixth-floor terrace—continues to operate as a privileged balcony facing the dome of the Metrópolis Building and the Madrid skyline, offering top-tier cocktails and light bites.
Pau Guardans, founder of Único Hotels, said: “This award thrills us particularly because it comes from readers: discerning travellers who choose us for how we make them feel. The Principal Madrid is our home on Gran Vía, and we continue to invest so it can be the home of those who visit the city as well.”
For his part, Víctor Cuevas, chef at Ático, notes: “Our cuisine celebrates Madrid and seasonal produce with a contemporary approach. Having Condé Nast Traveller’s readers recognise the hotel encourages us to keep refining every detail—from the table to the terraces.”
